This MALSCE seminar will acquaint participants with the new 2011 Minimum Standard Detail Requirements for ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys.  In addition to containing a number of significant changes, the new standards are completely reformatted and reorganized.  After a brief explanation of the 2.5 year process of developing and adopting the 2011 standards, Gary Kent will take participants through a section by section review of the new standards. With an effective date of February 23, 2011, this will be a timely introduction to the newest version of this ubiquitous national standard of the surveying profession.

Outline the purpose of an ALTA/ACSM Land Title Survey
Explain the process of requesting an ALTA/ACSM Land Title Survey
Explain how other survey standards and standards of care relate
Explain the measurement standard (Relative Positional Accuracy and the basis for its calculation)
Identify the records research required
Outline the items required to be gathered as part of the field work
Outline what needs to appear on the plat or map
Explain the issues of the mandatory ALTA/ACSM certification
Outline the optional Table A items

Seminar Speaker:

Gary Kent, LS, The Schneider Corporation

Gary Kent has been with The Schneider Corporation - a surveying, GIS and consulting engineering firm based in Indianapolis and with offices in North Carolina and Iowa - for 27 years.  He is past-president of both ACSM and the Indiana Society of Professional Land Surveyors. Gary taught Boundary Law, Legal Descriptions, Property Surveying and Land Survey Systems as an adjunct instructor for Purdue University from 1999 to 2006 and again this current semester.  He is currently in his third term as Vice Chairman of the Indiana State Board of Registration for Land Surveyors.  Gary is chair of the National Society of Professional Surveyors’ committee on the ALTA/ACSM Standards and is liaison to NSPS for the American Land Title Association.  He also writes regular columns for The American Surveyor magazine and for the ACSM Bulletin.

* Members of CALS, MSLS, NHLSA, NYSAPLS, RISPLS and VSLS can attend for the MALSCE Member rate, provided they fax or mail their registrations to MALSCE. Registration fee includes lunch and all seminar handouts. Registration is processed on a first-come, first-served basis. MALSCE will give a 50% refund for cancellations made by Monday, April 25, 2011. No refunds will be given after this date. No-shows will be billed.
