Massport Designer Selection Panel Seeks PEs and Architects for Board by December 1

Type:  Announcements

The Massachusetts Port Authority Designer Selection Panel (DSP) is seeking resumes from Professional Engineers and Architects licensed in Massachusetts for two openings on their DSP, with one starting  in November 2013 and one beginning on January 1, 2014.

The Massport Designer Selection Panel (DSP) designers for public building construction projects for Massport.  This is an important Public Board.  We need PE and RA candidates, licensed in and living in MA, who do not have conflicts of interest to apply for appointment by the Governor.  The DSP meets an average of 5-7 times per year for 3 hours at Massport, One Harborside Drive in East Boston.  If you are interested in applying to serve,  see details below.

ACTION REQUESTED:  If you are applying, forward your resume in Word, with full home and work contact information on it, to Abbie Goodman, by December1, 2013.

Note: If your resume does not have full home (and work, if employed) contact information at the top of the document and does not come to me in Word, we will be unable to forward it to Massport.

Background on the Designer Selection Panel

  • The Designer Selection Panel includes six  private sector members selected by Massport. The DSP selects designers for a variety of Massport public construction projects.

Job Description

  • Title:  Member, Designer Selection Panel
  • Reports to:  Massport Deputy Director of Capital Programs
  • Purpose: To serve as a voting member; to review plans, policies, procedures and practices for the operation of the DSP programs and performance. The DSP reviews designer applications for Massport  work, selects and ranks  finalists.
  • Term:  2 years; opportunity for re-appointment for another 2 year term

Expected Meeting Attendance:

  • Regularly attend DSP meetings as scheduled (about 5-7//year).  Meetings are usually held at Massport's office at One Harborside Drive, East Boston. Massport provides a parking space to DSP members for the duration of the meeting.

Obligations of the Board:

  • Avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest.  This means that if your firm does works for Massport and regularly submits proposals to Massport, even as subconsultant to a prime designer, you should not apply.   You would need to consult the Massport Deputy Director of Capital Programs, Luciana Burdi, or the State Ethics Commission for more information, but I can answer some questions about what this means.

Duties for Board members:

  • Use best professional judgment to support DSP activities
  • Promote DSP participation by encouraging firms to apply.
  • Be responsive to requests for information, participation or assistance from Massport's Capital Programs Department and staff.

If you are interested in applying to serve on this key public panel, forward your resume in Word, with full home and work contact information on it, to Abbie Goodman,  by December 1, 2013.   All resumes will be forwarded to Massport's Capital Programs Department, which will make the selection of candidates to recommend for appointment.
