Resources

From our member associations' publications and products to updates on government relations activities and current news from the associations, The Engineering Center Education Trust provides a range of services to help our members find the networking opportunities and tools they need.

Government Relations

Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, Licensed Site Professionals and other design professionals are important resources for public policy makers at all levels of government. We bring problem-solving skills, insights and expertise needed by our elected and appointed officials. They may not always agree with our views on specific laws or regulations, but they are always interested in listening to what professionals in the communities they represent have to say. This is how legislators educate themselves . . . and they want to hear from us.

Information on the next Engineers and Land Surveyors Day at the State House

Lobbying in Massachusetts
In 2009, the Massachusetts legislature enacted a substantial series of amendments to the Commonwealth’s lobbying registration and disclosure laws, as well as changes to the state’s ethics and campaign finance laws.  The Governor signed these changes into law.  The changes in the lobbying laws have the effect of sweeping some activities into the category of “lobbying” which previously may not have been considered lobbying.  The newly amended laws became effective January 1, 2010.  Robert Ruddock of Robert Ruddock, Esq. of Smith, Ruddock & Hayes has provided The Engineering Center with two memos explaining the lobbying laws.

Engineers and Land Surveyors Day at the State House

Each year, TECET and its member associations hold Engineers and Land Surveyors Day at the State House, a one-day event held in the spring. The TECET staff schedules appointments for participating professionals with their legislators for that afternoon; we also conduct briefing sessions about key issues in advance. Please don't wait for just one day a year to talk with your legislators!  You may visit your State Representative and State Senator at any time, either in the Massachusetts State House or in a district office. We recommend that you schedule an appointment in advance whenever possible.
