boston celebrates national engineers weekThe Boston Engineers Week Committee announces the 48th Annual National Engineers Week Celebration in Boston will be held on March 3-4, 2005 at the Hyatt Regency Boston Hotel. Boston, MA--- The Boston Engineers Week Committee will host the 48th Annual National Engineers Week Celebration on March 3-4, 2005 at the Hyatt Regency Boston Hotel. The Engineers Week Luncheon, to be held on Friday, March 4, 2005, from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, is one of the premier engineering events in Boston. Each year, over 300 professionals gather for this Annual Luncheon to celebrate the achievements of the local engineering community and to support the future growth of the engineering profession. Ellen Roy Herzfelder, Secretary of the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs (EOEA), is confirmed as the keynote speaker for the Luncheon. Secretary Herzfelder will provide an overview of the EOEA, highlighting her achievements in wetland restoration, environmental permitting, and parks stewardship. Ms. Herzfelder will also address her key priorities through initiatives such as World Class Parks, Smart Conservation, Lean and Green, and Urban Environments. At the Luncheon, the New England Achievement Award will be presented to Bernard Zubrowski, a Senior Scientist from the Education Development Center. Mr. Zubrowski has dedicated over 30 years of his professional life - as a curriculum developer, exhibit designer, artist, and author – to educating students and inspiring teachers about science and engineering. Mr. Zubrowski is most known for his 23 years of exhibit design at the Boston Children’s Museum. The Boston Engineers Week Committee will also present a $2,000 Scholarship to Jefferson King from the Boston Latin Academy. In his application, Jefferson described how he escaped the revolution in Liberia when he was a young boy, but wishes to return one day as an engineer to help rebuild his country. Jefferson will receive the scholarship upon enrollment in an engineering program in college. Other honorees include the students from Arlington High School (Arlington, MA) and Higgins Middle School (Peabody, MA), who will be honored as the winning teams in the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section/ASCE (BSCES) Model Bridge Competition. Students from Birchland Middle School (East Longmeadow, MA) will be honored as the winning team for the Future City Competition. Students from the Diamond Middle School (Lexington, MA) will be honored as the winning team from the Math Counts Competition. -MORE- Boston Celebrates National Engineers Week – continued Prior to the luncheon, the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section/ASCE (BSCES), the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA), and the Massachusetts Association of Land Surveyors and Civil Engineers (MALSCE), in conjunction with The Engineering Center and Engineers Week in Boston, present: “Engineer at the State House: Serving as a Legislative Fellow.” Panelists include: Anthony C. Centore, PE; Anatoly M. Darov, Esq., PE Melvin E. Jones, PE; State Representative Joseph Wagner (D-Chicopee); Dr. David L. Westerling, PE, PLS; and moderator Terese M. Kwiatkowski, PE. “Engineer at the State House: Serving as a Legislative Fellow” will take place Friday, March 4, 2005 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Hyatt Regency Boston Hotel. The Engineers Week Celebration will kick-off Thursday, March 3, 2005, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Hyatt Regency Boston Hotel with the Engineers Week Career Night. The Annual Career Night provides graduating college students and entry- to mid-level job seekers the opportunity to meet and speak with potential employers from local companies and agencies.
